What We Treat
Many people assume that acupuncture is similar to a medication, useful for treating only certain conditions. It is true that we carefully consider your particular symptoms and disease pattern, but we treat by restoring health not by suppressing symptoms. This is a subtle but vital distinction to make. If our strategy is to maintain and restore the healthy function of the body, then it is reasonable to say that we treat ANYTHING that isn't healthy biological function.
Acupuncture treats both acute and chronic health problems. Acupuncture can also have profound effects on "syndromes" that Western Medicine has difficulty treating. In cases where Western Medicine may be limited to prescribing medication for symptom management, acupuncture may be able to intervene and encourage the body in a self-healing process. As this healing process takes place, many people experience improvements in several aspects of their life (sleep, energy, emotional well being, stress level, aches and pains) and not simply alleviation of one bothersome symptom. I refer to this as the "rising tide lifts all ships" effect. Because we are reestablishing health, we have a profound effect on ALL the systems of the body, not to mention the mind and emotions.
Our goal is to identify the underlying imbalance associated with your condition rather than simply treat the symptoms. By addressing these underlying factors we can work to restore normal physiologic function, at which point the symptoms will subside naturally. The cause of illness may be different for each individual and must be treated accordingly. When we look at a list of commonly treated conditions, it appears to cover..... everything. As we've already stated, we treat anything that ISN'T healthy biologic function!
